BBC NEWS | Health | Nicotine drug 'may slow dementia':
"Nicotine drug 'may slow dementia'"

Uk team at Kings College London have demonstrated the positive effects on rats.

Hmm.. we have been barraged for decades about the perils and evils of smoking..

And to top it off the end of the article warns against smoking as a source of nicotine.. as if someone on the edge of dementia, could care whether he could get cancer.. how hypocritical..

"We found something to extend and improve your quality of life, but wait until we have a pill, don't smoke, it causes cancer.. sheesh..

I'd rather continue smoking my pipe, thank you very much..

U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher : 46th District Of California

Only in the US? Soon the rest of the world?

Mr. Speaker, I preface my remarks with a personal statement that, while I am opposed to the advocates of man-made global warming theories, I am committed to a clean and healthy environment, to purifying our air, our water, and our soil; all of this for the sake of the people of this planet, including my three children, Anika, Tristan and Christian. I do this not because of some paranoid theory that humans are changing the climate of the world, but instead, I am very concerned about the health of the people of the world and, thus, committed to clean air, clean soil, and clean water.

Thus, we have, today, to take a look at the issues of global warming and pollution that confront our society because there are enormous implications to this whole discussion of what has been called ``man-made global warming.''

Only 18 months ago the refrain ``Case closed: Global warming is real,'' was repeated as if the mantra from some religious zealots. It was pounded into the public consciousness over the airwaves, in print, and even at congressional hearings, ``Case closed.'' Well, this was obviously a brazen attempt to end open discussion and to silence differing views by dismissing the need for seriously contrary arguments and seriously listening to both sides of an argument. And rather than hearing both sides of the argument, this was an attempt to dismiss arguments even though the person making the arguments might have a very impressive credential or might be a very educated scientist or someone else who should be listened to.

31,072 scientists sign petition against “man-made global warming” theory and Kyoto

Here’s news of a petition apparently signed by over 31,000 scientists against the so-called (by fascists) “settled science” of “man-made global warming”. This was sent to me by a reader (Frogg) who follows the debate closely.

I checked out the petition and the controversy surrounding it quite a bit this morning. Lots of (what turn out to be) rabid political leftists denounce it of course. See one answer to one of them from the petition’s proponent, below. The biggest criticism of it came from a site which, if you follow the money trail far enough, turns out to be a far-left site site funded partly by a foundation which is in turn funded by the far-left billionaire Bush-hating socialist and political agitprop George Soros, but which is nonetheless well disguised as a legitimate, independent media organization. George Soros’ name often comes up when looking into sites well disguised as legitimate, independent media organizations

How many 'experts' does it take to stop this nonsense?

Mesopotamia West: Most Dangerous Canadians:

"Saturday, April 5, 2008

Everyone likes lists, so here with a list of the ten people whom I consider to be the 'most dangerous Canadians.' To qualify, the individual must have done something, or be doing something, which was or would, if successful, be harmful to Canada as a whole and Canadians individually."

Excellent list click over and read the whole thing...

Will you celebrate the darkness?

BAH! HUMBUG!

"I refuse to be a part of it. Rather than subscribing to the “we must all live in caves” theory, I prefer to celebrate our modernity. I want to live in the 21st century, not the 9th. So tomorrow night at 8pm I will turn on all my lights, computers and TVs to show my solidarity with the future of mankind, not to the prophets of doom and naysayers amongst us."

Mounties made big miss-take

Written by Ted Byfield

Ted Byfield

You cannot have a police force without a code of rules—most of them unwritten

I was talking last week to a veteran Mountie, retired from the RCMP now for more than 30 years, after a career that was at least that long and took him to the rank, I believe, of inspector, though I’m not sure about that.

“What,” I asked “has gone wrong? Why is it that an institution, which for well over a century managed to operate with scarcely a blemish on its record, now encounters problems at every turn.

Discipline problems, training problems, money control problems—so much so that a civilian has been called in to take them over.”

“Too long,” he said. “I’ve been far too long away from them to make any worthwhile observations.”

I knew he would say this and it may be largely true. But perhaps not entirely.

“Well did you see any changes even in your day that could have led to the problems we have today?”

He was slow to answer me, but I knew he wanted to say something, but was hesitant to do so.

“Come on, out with it,” I said.
