United Press International - Intl. Intelligence - Iran faces 'destruction' - Israel warns

HERE WE GO AGAIN?

Lead up to another West vs Islam Extremist War?

"Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz warned the Iranian people Saturday that they faced "destruction" unless they managed to restrain their new President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"Look at the fate of others who sought the destruction of the Jewish people. They only brought havoc and destruction to the own people," Mofaz said."

"Mofaz's speech was aimed to reassure the voters that Israel's security would be safe in Kadima's hands."

Tehran plans nuclear weapon test by March

"The FDI quotes sources in Iran that the high command of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force have issued new orders to Shahab-3 missile units, ordering them to move mobile missile launchers every 24 hours in view of a potential pre-emptive strike by the U.S. or Israel. The order was issued Tuesday, Jan. 16."

Goodbye and good riddance
Andrew Coyne
National Post

"
So you will perhaps forgive me when I say that if this election has no other result, if it achieves no other end, but to send Mr. Martin far, far out to sea, it will be enough. Him, and the thugs in his entourage. Changing the government is just a bonus. "

"
The most stinging indictment of Mr. Martin cannot come from my poor pen, but from his peers, old warhorses like John Crosbie and Ed Broadbent, who have seen elections come and go and been on both ends of a political punch."

Be sure and read his colum at the site, belwo..

NOW HERE'S A SCARY THOUGHT.

Why Stephen Harper won't be Canada's next Prime Minister

"So how does Stephen Harper not become Prime Minister, you ask? Simple math and Liberal promises, that's how."

"Martin: "Tonight the people of Canada have spoken, and we have listened. The people have Chosen their Canada™ and they have said 'no' to Mr. Harper's vision to Canada! I have spoken with Jack! Layton, who has agreed to help us save Canada from the scary Albertan. Mr. Layton has pledged to us, and in fact all Canadians, to support the Liberal government in a fundamental way. My opponent, Stephen Harper, will not steal your country away from you. Thank you, and good night."

MARTIN TO REFLAG SHIPS?

"Crew of PM’s sons’ ship fear for jobs.
Rumours say vessel will be reflagged, deckhands replaced after election
By STEPHEN MAHER Staff Reporter

The crew of a vessel owned by Prime Minister Paul Martin’s family is afraid the company is only waiting for the election to end before reflagging the ship and replacing the sailors with a foreign crew."

"
kept the Canadians on board until just after the election, because he knows that it would kill them if he would do so right now," said a union source, who asked not to be named.

The rusty ship, flying a tattered Canadian flag, is tied up at Pier 34 in Halifax, with a skeleton crew aboard."

Gilles Duceppe is a former Marxist-Leninist

And this is who Buzz wants Liberals to vote for?

Member of the working Communist Party in the years 1970, it is appointed to the recipients at the hospital Royal Victoria, in Montreal. At the beginning of the years 1980, whereas the direction of the PCO is the subject of critical sharp, Gilles Duceppe leaves the party and joined the rows of the CSN, for which he becomes organizer then trade-union negotiator in the sector of hotel trade."

CBC SAYS KEEP GUN REGISTRY - DON'T HIRE MORE RCMP

Guess they think it's better to register guns, than get more law enforcement on the streets of Canadian Cities.

"..employing 1,000 new RCMP officers will cost $40.5 million a year once they are out in the field"
"That's considerably more than the current cost of registering guns."

SAD CANADIAN MILITARY ?

A soldier's perspective - truth about equipment

"Every time anything happens to Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan, everyone with a beef against the current federal government seems to feel the need to ratchet-jaw on about the poor, wretchedly equipped Canadian military. As someone who’s been issued all the kit, and who has had access to the stuff other countries are using, I find this tendency extremely irritating."

"But for the love of God, I think back to the Army I joined in 1987, and the 1950’s pattern webbing and 1950’s vintage equipment I was originally issued with. I think back to the vehicles we used to drive, the clothing we used to wear, and frankly the attitudes we used to have, and I don’t even recognize us."

FUTURE OF THE MSM?

"I don’t know, for certain, and neither does anyone else. But I tend to believe some MSM types could be, or should be, nervous about the new era. Here’s my speculation, based upon my own biases, and also discussions with Liberal, Tory and NDP pals."

SO CLOSE, says Ipso-Reid POLL

"The latest Ipso-Reid Poll shows if an election were held today, the Conservatives would win 154 seats, one shy of a majority. The Liberals would have 71 seats, down from the 135 they held. The Bloc would have 51 seats, a loss of 3 seats, and the NDP would gain 12 seats rising to 31 seats."

Martin has exhausted his potential

"Apparently the Liberals just ain't what they used to be."

"Harper has established himself as far ahead of Martin in developing new ideas to solve old problems, and in the minds of many earned the chance to try them out.

It's that they're for Harper."

Smell of victory in air

Harper campaign rallies bigger, noisier and more enthusiastic

"
After 13 years in the opposition benches, the campaign team will only acknowledge there's "quiet optimism." They've been down this road before, and with an entire week left they know it's dangerous to take anything for granted."

CANOE -- CNEWS - Politics: Smell of victory in air

Why Martin Can't Win (and What He Could Do About It)

"In the last election, Stephen Harper lost because people "filled in the blanks" about what a Harper government might mean to our "Canadian values." In other words, the Liberal Party ran a cool campaign, betting on the ambiguity to save the day. Which it did. Sort of. In fact, for the last nearly forty years - ever since the master of political cool, Pierre Elliot Trudeau - the Liberal Party has run nothing but cool campaigns. That's all they know. Chrétien, a devoted student of PET, was as well a master of cool politics."

"Harper creates a hot environment - fragmentation among constituencies, intense, simplistic, repeated tropes that induce hypnotic effects, an explicitness that precludes active awareness of contextual consequences. And he is very effectively using today's primary hot medium - television - to deliver a hot message, and Canadians cannot turn away. Paul Martin, quite literally, is cooked. "

GOOD GRIEF, CHARLIE BROWN!

Time for the Loony factions to come out..

TORONTO -- In a meeting room at the Royal York Hotel yesterday, they lined up firing-squad style -- in two rows, one seated, the other standing against a wall behind the first -- as befits the sombre mood created by the prospect of a Stephen Harper Canada.

They included the great actor R. H. Thomson; Canadian Auto Workers union boss Buzz Hargrove; Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians; Bonnie Diamond of the National Association of Women and the Law; street nurse and advocate for the homeless Cathy Crowe; and a bunch of others.

Their collective motto may be fairly characterized as, "Be afraid. Be very afraid."

Their general demeanour is best described as barely contained panic.

Shoppers say PM yesterday's man
By Earl McRae

An icy wind blowing, I head into the Rideau Centre and the food court to tap some of the brains of the so-called "average" Canadians on where they stand now as the leaders gallop down the homestretch to the electoral wire.

A synopsis of seven responses: (1) "Liberal. I always vote Liberal." (2) "Conservative. The last time I voted Liberal, I won't make that mistake again." (3) "Conservative, because I like Stephen Harper. I voted for the Liberals before but I don't trust them." (4) "Either the Conservatives or the NDP, but probably the Conservatives. We need a change. I voted NDP in the last election, but it's a waste." (5) "Liberal. I didn't vote last time." (6) "Definitely the Conservatives because Harper deserves his chance. I voted for them the last time, too." (7) "Stephen Harper. First time in my life I've ever voted anything but Liberal."

Different kind of Canada, anyone?

"If the Conservatives win on Jan. 23, five years from now this will be a different kind of Canada."

This has now become the mantra of those who oppose change in Ottawa. It is on the lips of those with access to cameras and microphones.

But it isn't just former NDP pols who are using this language. You hear it from the Liberals, many of whom have privately told their media friendlies -- a.k.a. accomplices -- that the jig is up for them.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet. But they hear her practising and the voice is getting louder and louder in the echo chambers of their minds.

MARTIN CONCEDES ELECTION?

Watching a news item last night where Martin's campaign was shown in Montreal, I paid some attention when in the middle of Martin's comments to his followers, he made mention of Harper and 'his' government.. Seems to me, that Martin has finally, publicly conceded that a Tory win is inevitable.

Too bad he can't seem to turn down his personal, negative, evasive smear tactics, but then that would assume he has some depth beyond his carefully crafted TV persona.
